This is an ORIGINAL FIRST PRINTING of this poster by Julius Kupfer-Sachs. Printed in 1926, it was created to promote the film Derby. Kupfer-Sachs was well-versed in the visual tropes of German Expressionism, and frequently used them to dramatic effect in his posters. In this design for Max Reichmanns early film Derby, he gives the viewer an austere, powdered woman, similar in both mood and posture to Otto Dixs The Dancer Anita Berber which caused quite the scandal the year prior. Seated below is a green-hued, sullen jockey, finishing off a bottle of wine — perhaps a nod to George Groszs The Lovesick Man. It measures approximately 36 7/8 x 55 3/4 inches, and is in A- condition (slight tears largely at edges). It has been laid on linen for preservation. Note: This is NOT a reproduction.
