Depicted in this poster a collage type illustration of a Mayan pyramid, a Spanish colonial church, a beach resort, village houses etc. The central image of this poster is the big bust is of the Deity Kukulkan, depicted as a plumed or feathered serpent. The depiction of the feathered serpent deity is present in other cultures of Mesoamerica. Kukulkan is closely related to the god Q’uq’umatz of the L’iche’ Maya and Quetzalcoatl of the Aztecs. Little is known of the mythology of this pre-Columbian deity. Howard Koslow (1925 – 2016). A painter and illustrator who for more than four decades designed many of the most recognizable stamps issued by the United States Poster Service, including a 1994 series depicting famous blues and jazz musicians and 30 stamps depicting coastal lighthouses. Over his long career he designed more than 50 stamps and postal cards, on subjects including the signing of the constitution, Carnegie Hall, the Brooklyn Bridge, Ellis Island and, as part of the “Legends of America Music” series, eight blues and jazz masters Robert Johnson, Bessie Smith, Muddy Waters, Ma Rainey, Jimmy Rushing, Howlin’ Wolf, Billie Holiday, and Mildred Bailey.
