This batch are original silkcreened Cuban Movie posters from the late 80s through to the early 2000’s- these are not going to make it on the wall anytime soon. This is a bit more special than the rest of my collection – I have owned this since the early 90s and obtained in Havana at an antiquarian bookseller – I was told this was an original from 1968 or 69. It certainly looks to be period. The edges are torn as expected from the first production runs, there are marking and spotting all around the print. The paper is thicker than the later reprints and has a cottony feel to it. The paint is thicker than the later ones and still vibrant. The silkscreening process would have been complex and preempts the special period where paints etc were rationed and in short supply. I believe it is now 50 years old, so a bit special. This has literally been in an art folder for nearly 30 years. Would benefit from archival museum framing. Check pics for details. All are hand made silkscreens produced by the ICAIC (Cuban Film Institute) silk-screen workshop in. Sized a standard 20×30 inches for display purposes. There will likely be imperfections with them all – the paper quality varies as do the paints used. The silkscreens themselves usually have edge wear & tear and markings as you would expect from something from Cuba where the storage approach and climatic conditions are not good for them. Each listing should show any condition issues, but these are quite special with ageing patina adding some perspective to them I think. The Cubans produced these posted as a cheap way of publicising movie releases where other artwork was not available and they were able to add colour and emotion to reflect the movie itself. Many of the artists (bachs etc) are very well regarded globally. Please google for the individual movie name for further details on these often obscure films. Paper colours range from clean white to yellowed depending upon the paper available at the time to the printers. Most will be annoted with the artist name and a date in the bottom LH/RH margins. Some will be first edition, some second printing, its difficult to tell as the screens were reused. I guarantee these are all original and obtained by myself in Cuba over many many years.
