The basis of the film narration was formed by the events that took place during one day with the young metro builder Kolka and his friends – Siberian installer Volodya Ermakov, conscript and newlywed Sasha, saleswoman of the records department of GUM Alyona. The film, which is a chain of completed short story episodes, became a cinematic debut for a number of performers (Evgeny Steblov, Vladimir Basov, Irina Miroshnichenko); Nikita Mikhalkov played a major role in a movie for the first time. The film, the genre of which is defined by the creators as a lyrical comedy, was filmed by the operator Vadim Yusov with the use of long-focus optics, which made it possible to bring the texture of the image closer to the effect of authenticity. The film features a song by Andrey Petrov to the verses of Gennady Shpalikov “And I walk, I walk around Moscow”. Reviews and reviews of contemporaries Danelia and Shpalikov were mixed. In film studies publications, along with the recognition of the soft lyricism of the picture and the natural play of the actors, there were claims related to the “conflict-free” action and the absence of complex drama in the plot. The film was presented at the 17th Cannes Film Festival in 1964, where Danelia was awarded a special honorable mention by the jury among young filmmakers: For the individuality and promises that they expressed in their works. Vadim Yusov’s camera work was awarded the first prizes in the same year at the All-Union Film Festival and at the International Technical Film Competition within the framework of the VI UNIATEK Congress in Milan.
