This is a Vintage Original 1984. 1st Italian Re-Release Movie Poster – directed by Fritz Lang – It is not a reprint or reproduction. Color lithograph measures 39″ x 55″. Poster is in excellent condition! Colors are as bright and crisp as the day it was printed. No tears, pinholes, or tape. It would be difficult to find another in this good of condition. Folded as originally issued. Prima Edizione Italiana 1984”Selegrafica 80-Roma Via Aretusa 50′ Printed in Italy. This is a large colorful poster with an iconic image of this Silent Film Classic! Metropolis is a 1927 German expressionist science-fiction drama film directed by Fritz Lang. Written by Thea von Harbou in collaboration with Lang, [5][6] it stars Gustav Fröhlich, Alfred Abel, Rudolf Klein-Rogge and Brigitte Helm. Erich Pommer produced it in the Babelsberg Studios for Universum Film A. The silent film is regarded as a pioneering science-fiction movie, being among the first feature-length movies of that genre. Filming took place over 17 months in 192526 at a cost of more than five million Reichsmarks. Made in Germany during the Weimar period, Metropolis is set in a futuristic urban dystopia and follows the attempts of Freder, the wealthy son of the city master, and Maria, a saintly figure to the workers, to overcome the vast gulf separating the classes in their city and bring the workers together with Joh Fredersen, the city master. The film’s message is encompassed in the final inter-title: “The Mediator Between the Head and the Hands Must Be the Heart”. Metropolis met a mixed reception upon release. Critics found it pictorially beautiful and visually powerfulthe film’s art direction by Otto Hunte, Erich Kettelhut and Karl Vollbrecht draws influence from Bauhaus, Cubist and Futurist design, [9] along with touches of the Gothic in the scenes in the catacombs, the cathedral and Rotwang’s houseand lauded its complex special effects, but accused its story of naiveté. Wells described the film as “silly”, and The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction calls the film’s story “trite” and its politics “ludicrously simplistic”. The film’s alleged Communist message was also criticized. The film’s extensive running time also came in for criticism, and Metropolis was cut substantially after its German premiere, with a large portion of Lang’s original footage removed. Many attempts have been made since the 1970s to restore the film. In 1984 Italian music producer Giorgio Moroder released a truncated version with a soundtrack by rock artists including Freddie Mercury, Loverboy and Adam Ant. In 2001 a new reconstruction of Metropolis was shown at the Berlin Film Festival. In 2008 a damaged print of Lang’s original cut of the film was found in a museum in Argentina. After a long restoration process that required additional materials provided by a print from New Zealand, the film was 95% restored and shown on large screens in Berlin and Frankfurt simultaneously on 12 February 2010. In 2001 the film was inscribed on UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register, the first film thus distinguished. This is a Vintage Original 1960s. Movie Poster – starring Fay Wray – It is not a reprint or reproduction. Color lithograph measures 47″ x 63″. Poster is in good, used condition. Poster has edge and edge wear with small tears up along the left side, a few small fold tears (about 1) top horizontal fold, tack holes, and some staining up to the left of Kong’s head, as shown. King Kong is a 1933 American pre-Code monster adventure film directed and produced by Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B. The screenplay by James Ashmore Creelman and Ruth Rose was developed from an idea conceived by Cooper and Edgar Wallace. It stars Fay Wray, Bruce Cabot and Robert Armstrong, and opened in New York City on March 2, 1933, to rave reviews. It has been ranked by Rotten Tomatoes as the greatest horror film of all time[5] and the thirty-third greatest film of all time. The film tells of a huge, ape-like creature dubbed Kong who perishes in an attempt to possess a beautiful young woman (Wray). King Kong is especially noted for its stop-motion animation by Willis O’Brien and a groundbreaking musical score by Max Steiner. In 1991, it was deemed “culturally, historically and aesthetically significant” by the Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the National Film Registry. A sequel quickly followed with Son of Kong (also released in 1933), with several more films made in the following decades.
