Original title on the poster. IN: 25 x 39 = CM: 64 x 100. Original vintage Soviet poster (from the first release of this movie in Soviet Union – February 1955) for the Czechoslovakian film – “Frona” also known as “Sestry” (Czh), “The Sisters” (Engl). Much has changed in the Czechoslovak countryside during the years of people’s power. The kulaks (reach family) have lost their former power, poverty and the need of land-poor peasants are a thing of the past. But they still have a strong attachment to their field, to their border. They are skeptical about the success stories of agricultural cooperatives. The former owners of the village play on this attachment to the old. One of them is the former kulak Zobach G. Where by cunning, where by bribery Zobach tries to keep the boundaries. He consoles himself with the thought that the people’s republic will not last long, that the old order will be restored and, as before, half of the village will work on its fields. Against the background of the struggle between the new and the old, an acute conflict is brewing in the Zobach family. His son Florish Y. Pantik is married to the daughter of a poor peasant, Filipek. Hard-working, strong Frona G. Chelkova is a godsend for the old man Zobach. The whole burden of housework falls on her. Frona does not like her husband, who spends almost all the time in the tavern, but she expects to receive a plot of land from Zobach and therefore works, sparing no effort. Frona is even ready to sacrifice her feelings for the simple peasant guy Yuro O. Latskovich, whom she has secretly loved for a long time. Zobach knows Frona’s cherished dream and, playing on her hopes of getting “his” land, holds it tightly in his hands. Flourish hates and fears his father. He is sure that the past is over, that there will be no return to the old. If not for his father, Flourish would have blown the whole household long ago. The Zobach family is opposed in the film by the old Filipek, the chairman of the cooperative F. All his life he worked tirelessly, but did not acquire much wealth. His only joy is his daughters: the elder Frona and the younger Marisha M. Stepekalova, who is studying at the courses of tractor drivers. Hana Hegerová, Gustav Hilmar, Július Pántik.
